Summer Engagement Locations Near Portland, Oregon

Looking for a perfect engagement location in Portland or nearby? Look no further!

Near Cascade Locks, just 40 minutes from Portland, Government Cove stands out as one of the top spots for engagement sessions. I personally love this location so much—it's not only a 5 min drive from my home but also reminiscent of Iceland's stunning landscapes. From moss-covered rocks to towering evergreens and panoramic views of the Columbia River Gorge, Government Cove offers an array of picturesque backdrops that inspire creativity and capture unforgettable moments.

I personally think engagement sessions are incredibly valuable. It's like a rehearsal for your wedding photos, helping you get comfortable in front of the camera and build a connection with your photographer. This can really ease any nerves on your big day!

As a Cascade Locks based photographer, I’ve found Government Cove to be one of the most stunning and versatile photo locations in the Columbia River Gorge. Even though the views are spectacular, one hour is usually more than enough for a complete engagement session at this scenic spot.

Many of my couples choose the Adventure Photography Package, which is priced at $900 includes two locations and up to 2.5 hours of coverage. This allows us to start with the epic landscapes of Government Cove and then head to one of the nearby waterfalls for a completely different vibe. Wahclella Falls is a personal favorite for engagement photography—lush, dramatic, and always breathtaking.

But if you're looking for a quick one-hour photoshoot, I got you covered! This package is just $500, and I'd be happy to help you choose locations and outfits.

If you’re thinking about something different than the Cove but still want to find engagement location near Portland, consider Thunder Island, located right in my hometown Cascade Locks, or Blackberry Beach, which sits just across the bay from Government Cove. Both offer unique scenery with easy access and free parking.

Whether you’re planning a Columbia River Gorge engagement session or simply exploring photography locations near Portland, don’t forget to dress in layers—the wind here can surprise you, especially in the cooler months!

And my favorite off-the-beaten-path location! Just minutes from Cascade Locks, there's a hidden, gorgeous waterfall. It is an easy 40-minute hike and could be just perfect for adventurous engagement photoshoot.

And, of course, I couldn't miss mentioning Wahclella Falls! This stunning waterfall is a must-see, though it tends to get crowded on summer weekends, making parking tricky. For the best experience, consider visiting just before sunset or on weekdays, as we did for engagement photoshoot with Ash and Janielynn.
